Pink stuff

Yea, so it's Valentine's Day =_= I'm almost falling asleep at the keyboard, but I did promise an entry, so...

Despite the title of this entry, there's going to be nothing pink about it, except for the heart you get above. That's my half eaten dinner of tonkatsu don. I made it for my parents too~ such a sweet daughter right? :D At my second attempt in a long time at making tonkatsu, I've discovered that the trick to making perfect tonkatsu is to LIBERALLY coat the pork with panko. Like cover it 5 times or something, and pat the panko so it sticks to the pork and keep patting until no more panko can stick on. And use one glove for the egg wash, another glove for both flour and panko, so you won't get messy hands.

My mum really liked the bulldog sauce because it has 0msg! No artificial anything! :D She had two pieces of tonkatsu despite feeling full from lunch~ Dad was very happy with my tonkatsu too, so yay, I had a wonderful Valentine's Day... other than being dead on my feet from work...

But Valentine's Day post can't be without some sort of chocolate, and I wasn't going to buy any to feel sorry for myself, so I made some. For me.

Recipe was from youtube, haha. Other than cookingwithdog, I often watch the other Japanese chefs on youtube. They are a very close knit community actually, but I really only keep up to date with the videos posted by ochikeron and runnyrunny999. This one was by ochikeron.

100g choco+ 3tbsp cream in a metal bowl dunked in hot water. Not boiling. Instructions said 60 degrees, but mine was probably closer to 80. No difference cos my chocolate came straight out of the fridge and was extremely hard and cold.

Yea, it's branded cream =_=

This was my birthday present last year from BT :D

Piggy spatula has a sister called the Piggy whisk, but I haven't used a chance to use her yet.

I probably didn't heat it up enough because as soon as it completely melted like that, I took it off the bowl of hot water, but worked well enough.

That blob of yellow is a teaspoon of unsalted butter. I used black&gold (IGA home brand) unsalted butter because... you can't tell the difference between branded and non branded butter when it's melted.

Spread out onto a sheet of cling wrap and placed in fridge for an hour or so.

From 114___02
Chop and sprinkle with cocoa powder~ messy but fun.

From 114___02
ochikeron used origami boxes to put them in. I can only be bothered to make one...

From 114___02
but the lining is too big =( I should have made a bigger box then, but no paper!

From 114___02
Good enough. No one will see this anyway but myself~ choco for me!

Oh yea, in case you're wondering about the dragon, I shall repost this picture and see if you can tell how I did it...

Photoshop! XD

Yea, enough of this Valentine's Day rubbish, I'm heading off to bed.

Haha nice.

Not bad with the photoshop :P Couldn't tell at first (was actually going to ask).

Dunno why I didn't mention it earlier, the tonkatsu - there's a really nice one in Taipei that I always visit when I go :) mmmmm!! Probably nothing like JP but hey, I haven't been.

Happy V day~ at least you had a good one!

haha, I don't know to to draw or print on chocolates, but it might be interesting to learn. I suspect you need a machine of some sort..
